Death of the Sun is the solo debut album from former Metallic Falcons singer/songwriter Matteah Baim.

Recorded June through August 2006 in Los Angeles and Chicago the album features musical contributions from Jana Hunter, Devendra Banhart, Butchy Fuego, Robert Lowe, Rob Doran, Jon Beasley, Birdie Lawson, Emma Yohanan. Death of the Sun is being released May 2007 on DiCristina Stairbuilders Death of the Sun presents a world that is spaciously phrased and roughly edged to bring you a type of New Age Grunge. Although the album's central theme is loss, a deeper sense of triumph is what lingers. The songs chronicle and depict how the moon's cycle of life and death gives birth to romantic times. Sounding as if Matteah had thrown her guitar into the sea; the seagulls and dolphins cry "strange weather these days." From below the guitar sees the clouds like letters; from above a mountain looks upside down. It swims through to the other side, bringing songs to Matteah. She remembers the power of music as it moves through her. Like air, it sticks to your ribs.

Matteah Baim is rooted in the american midwest. She purchased her first guitar from a basement pawn shop in Milwaukee and bought her first album, a Doors' bootleg called Whysky Mystics and Men, around the same time. She then attempted an occult study of music, piecing together the odd bits she came across.

-------------------------------

Baim's dream had always been to live and work in a place that supported her creative efforts. She headed to San Francisco and attended art school. Though most of her time was spent painting and drawing, music remained quietly close to her heart.

Eventually Matteah moved on to Chicago and later New York where she began a more serious attempt at music. Trading her beloved pawnshop guitar for an electric, she formed the band Metallic Falcons with Sierra Casday of CocoRosie. The Falcons created heavy, rich, ambiguous songscapes recorded for the 2006 release of their only album Desert Doughnuts.

As the Falcons fly into the night, Baim's Death of the Sun emerges.
