Young God Records is releasing The Orchard, the long playing debut by the fantastic group of singers/players called Fire On Fire. Fire on Fire used to be the art-punk-prog-chaos collective Cerberus Shoal, but they ditched their electric instruments, went into hiding for a while, and now play all acoustic-stand up bass, mandolin, banjo, harmonium, accordion, acoustic guitar, dobro, etc., and they all sing and harmonize on the songs. The first CD edition is a small press offset 4 color package, numbered 1 through 1000, with original art by Colleen Kinsella of Fire On Fire and printed at Stumptown Printers, Portland Oregon on 100% recycled paper.

The Orchard is actually the first music they wrote together as Fire on Fire. The recording of this repertoire preceded the creation of material like "Hangman" and "Amnesia" which appeared wound up appearing on their first release, a self-titled 5 song EP released late last year on Young God to overwhelming critical acclaim.

-------------------------------

Fire on Fire began without a name in a warm kitchen in Maine. Some of the members used to be in Cerberus Shoal. Cerberus Shoal came to a close on Dec. 5th 2005 and when the dust settled and Chriss Sutherland returned from Spain, other people he’d been living with had relocated and others settled in. These were three friends whose musical interests grew outward from the punk roots of their youth to a more personal intimate exchange and they began playing songs for each other: songs on guitars, banjos and harmonium with lots of words and voices.  The music was living, open and it invited everyone to take part in it. The circle widened to include two more friends who brought rhythm, melody, more voices and more songs. It was in that Spring of '06 that Sutherland and associates began working in earnest as what would come to be known as Fire on Fire and they worked up the tunes that now comprise The Orchard. These songs were recorded live right in the living room as the band members were very well rehearsed as all lived right there and were communing often.

Fire on Fire is now five friends who play fierce and emotionally sharp words to stab at their selves, their situations, their lives.  The music comes from the heart of each singer and writer. All five live together in a big blue house across from green oil tank # 28 in South Portland, Maine. Live, Fire on Fire do it "old school" and just use two mics placed in front of them on the stage, like a bluegrass band. It's all acoustic, but it's not in the least folky. More old-timey incantations - American music with excellent words and performed with the honed violence of intent that truly great music requires. They're a total blast live. To YG label head Michael Gira they sound like a backwoods, fierce, psychedelic Mamas And Papas or a crazed and joyously vengeful gospel string band.
